Maxinkuckee Snipets Logansport Daily Reporter Florence, daughter of Pan Handle Commencing Sunday June 15th and continuing for twelve Sundays. The Vandalia Line will run a special excursion tain to Marmont (Lake Maxinkuckee). The train will pass Logansport at 9:20 a.m. and return at 7:25 p.m. fare for round trip only $1.00. Plenty of hotel, boat and fishing accommodation and shelter in case of storm. Go and spend a day at this charming summer resport J. C. Alexander, cut her knee badly on a muscle shell Saturday while bathing at Lake Maxinkuckee. pg. 8 Tuesday July 23 1895 Logansport Daily Reporter R. D. Jones, the traveling man, does not approve of navigation in a row boat. While attempting to step from one onto the pier at the Alrington Hotel, Maxinkuckee, the other day, he fell into the water, head foremost, and went down like McGiaty, clear to the bottom. Of course he was dressed in his best suit of close. - pg. 8 July 23 1895 Logansport Daily Reporter. Harry Alfreys Paddles Across Maxinkuckee Saturday. Harry Alfreys, one of the students at Culver academy, swam across Lake Maxinkuckee, Staurday, making the distance of over two miles in about an house. This is the second time he has accomplished the feat and makes only about the fourth or fifth time that it has yet been done by anyone. Alfreys started from the Arlington hotel and headed straight across. Logansport Daily Reporter pg. 8 Tuesday 23 Jul. 1895 Arlington Hotel Burns. The Arlington Hotel at Marmont, owned by Conductor Kapp [Knapp], of the Vandalia; was conosumed by fire this mornoing. The loss was $3000 fully covered by insurance pg. 8 30 Jan. 1896 Logansport Daily Reporter Work has commenced on the new Arlington Hotel at Marmont, and it will be ready for occupancy about May 1st. pg. 6 28 Mar. 1896 Logansport Daily Reporter Arlington Closed - The Arlington hotel at Lake Maxinkuckee has closed for the winter months and the proprietor, A. J. Knapp, has returned to his home in South Bend. A good season is reported. pg. 5 11 Nov. 1897 Logansport Daily Reporter The Arlington Hotel at Maxinkuckee had not been closed, but will be kept open till Nov 16th, in order to accommodate fishermen and hynters. Big Outing at Maxinkuckee Knights of Columbbus Have Big Time Their Outing is Now in Progress at Lake Maxinkuckee Many Novel Features are Promised in the Way of an Interesting Program The local lodge of Knights of Columbus are baving their annual outing at Lake Maxinkuckee this week. Following is the sceduled amusement program: Thursday. 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. - Boat and swinning drills by Culver cadets at academy. 8:00 p.m. Steamer party; all take steamers. Friday. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Band concert and drills by Culver Cadets at academy grounds. 3:-- to 5_00 p.m. - Card party on the "White Swan" 6:00 p.m. Gun salute and lowering of the colors, at Culver academy. 8:00 p.m. Grand ball on the "FLoating Palace"; take steamers from hotel piers. Saturday. 2:00 a.m. Baloon ascemsopm frp, Arlington pier; Prof. W. G. Hanley. 9:00 a.m. Rag chewing contest between Col. McGreevy and John Elsert in woods south end of lake. 10:00 a.m. Shooiting the chutes at Culvre [CUlver]; John W. McGreevy 11:00 a.m. Hig dive from the "White Swan"; T. A. McGovern. 12:00 m. - Dinner. 1:00 p.m. Wrestling exhibition by E. J. Twomey and Thomas Perkins. 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Swimming exhidition (by all concerned) at Arlington pier. 3:00 p.m. Clam bake on beach near depot. 6:00 p.m. Walking the water; Gus Gleitz. 7:30 p.m. Poprch part at Arlington Hotel. 11:00 p.m. Acronbatic feat, "Putting on the Lid" Thomas Morris, John Sinnott, D. Costello. Sunday. 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. Elizabeth Church, celebrated by Rev. Thomas Travers. 7:30 p.m. The outing will conculde with a grand musical enterainment.
