Lake Maxinkuckee is located in the fractional sections of 15, 16, 21, 22, 28, 27 and 34 of Township 32 North Range One East.

This page will be the listing of the original Land Patents from the United States Government or the first original land owners of the property Around Lake Maxinkuckee.

The 1830- 1840 plat map as present on its own page. And also here that I have sectioned down to North - East - South and West; looks to me to be an original mapping done for the U. S. Government land patent office for means of issuing land patents for the area.

The following names appear in "Marshall Co. Tract Book, Original Land Sales", 1833-1867, which is located in the Marshall County Historical Museum. The land was purchased from the U.S. Government or the State of Indiana as Swamp Lands or Canal Lands.

PUBLIC SALE of SWAMP LANDS in MARSHALL COUNTY

The following public notice appeared in The Banner, a newspaper printed in Plymouth, dated 4 August 1853:
OFFICE OF AUDITOR of Marshall County Plymouth, May 6th, 1853 In pursuance of the provisions of an act entitled "an act to regulate the sale of the Swamp Lands donated by the United States to the State of Indiana, and to provide for the Draining and reclaiming thereof, in accordance with the condition of said grant," approved May 29, 1852, and the several acts supplemental thereto, approved June 14, 1852, and March 4, 1853, there will be offered at public sale, at the court house, in the town of Plymouth, all the
SWAMP LANDS
Laying and being in said county of Marshall, situated as follows, to wit:
In Townships number 32, 33, 34, and 35, north, range 1 east.
In Townships number 32, 33, 34 and 35, north, range 2 east.
In Townships number 32, 33, 34 and 35, north, range 3 east.
In Townships number 32, 33, 34 and 35, north, range 4 east.
The sale will commence on the 8th day of August 1853 at ten o'clock in the forenoon, and be continued from day to day until all the lands are offered. The conditions of sale are Cash, and the following funds will be received in payment, to wit:

Gold and silver, the notes of the State Bank of Indiana, the notes of the Free Banks of Indiana, the Bank of Missouri, and all solvent Banks of Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia.

ORIGINAL LAND OWNERS

The following is abstracted from a list returned to Marshall County by the Office of the State Auditor, Indianapolis, Indiana, certifying the "foregoing lands, lying in the County of Marshall, were entered at the Land Office at Winamac, at the times and by the person therein mentioned".

I am going to do this here - the one largest land patent holder of Lake Maxinkuckee was James F. D. Lanier - all his patents are listed below. Here is his own autobiography and here is a compiled biography from history sources on Indiana.
The sections of land in Union township that include the lake and property around it are: 15, 16, 22, 24, 27 and 34.

Land Patents:
William Thompson obtained the land patent for the East half of fractional fifteen in township thirty two, of Range one, East containing 344 96/100 acres on 10 August 1837.

James F. D. Lanier obtained the land patent of the North West quarter of Section fifteen which would of been 160 acres; also a part of this patent was the East half of the South quarter of Section 17 which would of been 80 acres for a total of 240 acres on 30 June 1837. With other land patents listed on this page James F. D. Lanier owned approximately 1129 10/100 acres of land around the lake.

James F. D. Lanier obtained a land patent for the Fractional Section Twenty seven. Acreage is undeterminable by the certificate for this piece of land. This patent also contained land in sections Twenty, Twenty one and Twenty eight for a total of 793 32/100 acres total.

Land Patent:
James F D. Lanier obtained the land patent the North half of section thirty four which would of been approximately 118 79/100 acres; with this was the East half of the North East quarter of section thirty four which contained 80 acres for a total of 198 79/100 acres on 30 June 1837. With other land patents listed on this page James F. D. Lanier owned approximately 1129 10/100 acres of land around the lake.

Land Patent:
James F. D. Lanier obtained a land patent for the Fractional section Twenty one. Acreage is undeterminable by the certificate for this piece of land. This patent also contained land in sections Twenty, Twenty seven and Twenty eight for a total of 793 32/100 acres total.
An abstract states the patent date of 26 February 1836 for section 21 and the acreage for this section as 155.82A. This abstract of this area being Transcribed at Present.
