Culver Lakefest

The Culver Lakefest had its founding in February of 1984 by a simple question asked by Major General Robert Tanguy in a meeting of the Culver Economic Development Committee: Why doesn't Culver have festival?

The Chairman of the CEDC Joe Plankis said:
Ok, Tanguy, draw up an organization plan for it and wee will look at it next meeting.

The next emeting it was approved by the CEDC members of which were: Charles Edgington, Jim Bonine, Jim Moss, Jean Rakich, Roy Shepard, Joe Plakis and Robert Tanguy.

The CEDC agreed to finance it and appointed Roy Shepard chairman of the fiestival project. The first meeting was held at the Mc Gill's factory confernece room on a Saturday at 9 a.m. There was a hugh turnout. Committees were formed. Connie Van Horn, Parade chairman; Burn-Out, Kevin Bonine & Mike Maddox; Booths, Clara Hansen.

Others were Elmer Haun, Roderick Martindale, Shirley Baker, Cheryl (Schrimsher) Hyndman, Tricia Ammer, Shellie Shepherd and many other that are un-accounted for.

It was held on the the third full weekend in July since its inception and has became a tradition.
