Culver - Culver Military - Lake Maxinkuckee Vintage PostcardsThese are vintage - postcards of Culver, Culver Military Academy and Lake Maxinkuckee that David and I have collected pre 1990 of the area. Concentration was focused first on Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee; secondary was the Culver Military Academy. David enjoyed them - that was all that mattered and I was gathering a little bit of the history of Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee. These were all purchased locally in Culver - from the local antique stores amongest which was The Country Cousins and The Collectors. A few of them were purchuased during the annual Lakfest in July from the vendors - who came to sell the wares there. Care was taken when purchasing post cards to select only the very best that was available; when used post cards were only availabe - preference was given to 'unused' post cards verses the used postcards - because the postmark often bleed through or the imprint showed completely on the picture side - to me this was unacceptable. Thus I prefered unsued nor non-postmarked cards if they were written on. I would not purchased any post card that had a postmark that had bleed through to the front; and those that had an imprint visible had to show no dirt on the imprint. I even had another Culver collector to tell me at one point that I did not need to collect the post cards, I just kept my mouth shut - as David wanted me to collect them and even came home telling me if the 'Country Cousins had anything new in either post cards and especially carnival glass and ordered me up there to buy for either collection - Collecting post cards ceased to exist as of Thursday 2:50 p. m. 23 August 1990 - as this was a 'frivolus' and un-neeeded item that could not longer be afford - even tho my love of history and genealogy still existed - that hobby was even put on hold for over 5 years unless it was 'free' or stuff was sent - for many months anything doing with genealogy that was received in the mail - made it out of the mail box and was thrown into a pile on the dining room table and when it built up it was then eventually taken to my computer/genealogy corner in the laundry room and the same thing done - thrown into a file container - for a later date... David was gone - Money just did not exist for this any longer and alot of other 'frivolus' things - the main goal was the kids and getting them out of high school (1991, 1993) that was all that mattered besides trying to survive. I no longer have any use for the post cards - I can do with the scans I have made of them - for looking at enjoying and for what I want them for - why leave them for someone else to... I hate to have to sell them but why put it off... This is an attempt to raise money to help restore my house, replace my XP computer which is dead, to maintain this site as well as the other genealogical sites I have and gather up money to possibly join research sites such as newspaper.com etc. which will be on the very bottom of the list I have set one price of $10 per card postage paid. - - Please e-mail list of which post card(s)wishing to purchase STATING ITEM # also, include your e-mail, mailing address Contact me at: Maxinkuckee Postcards. I will let you know if available still. Then I will invoice thorugh PayPal Payment will be accepted through PAYPAL only. Item(s) will be shipped upon payment verification by PAYPAL. All sales are final - The post cards have been scanned into the computer front and back - the link for "front" and "back" takes you off the page and you MUST USE the "back arrow" to return to this page - the scans of the postcards exceed the limits of the page boundaries. Thus these are represented by actual true scans of each - 'What You See Is What You Get'; you have the right to view the postvard back and front. I have not sized down to regular postcard size nor have I corrected color or enhanched them in anyway. All I have done is cut out the excess of the scanner bed which was over 11" by 11" They are somewhat larger than then normal postcard which is approximately 5 1/2 (l) by 3 (w) I will probably make this a special section also of the site - for sharing postcards, their messages, who published them for the area - etc. There is ONLY ONE POSTCARD as listed below (doubles are listed as individuals and each are scanned) - each post card has been placed in an envelope and # accordingly to the list below so be sure state the Item #.

WHITE BORDER: Yes POSTAGE STAMP : DIVIDED CARD: Yes Caption: Culver Military Academy Culver Indiana This million dollar camp on a 250 acre site overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee is the home for seven weeks each summer for 660 boys ages 9 1/2 to 14 PUBLISHER: Made by: Printed in: WRITTEN ON BACK: MESSAGE: ADDRESS: History: 1962 - Approval of the Woodcraft camp for 60 cabins, a dining hall, a headquarters building, a library, and a museum The Culver brothers - rejected the use of the canvas tents for the new camp and wanted more permanent structures that would stand the test of time. Lester Heckle designed a prototype cabin and it was completely furnished to give visitors, alumni and all glimpse of what was to be. It was placed at the main entrance to the Woodcraft site for duration of the camp season in 1962; and Ground was broken during the summer of 1962. Then in February 1963 all six-tons of the cabin was towed east to the new Woodcraft site east on Indiana 10. All odds - seemed against the camp the worst winter - and a muddy spring. The new facilities was dedicated July 26-27 during the Summer School reunion weekend. The Woodcraft was only a single driveway into the camp and no egress road
