"Soldier, rest! Thy warfare o'er,
Sleep the sleep that knows not breaking,
Dream of battled fields no more.
Days of danger, nights of waking."

These are probably in need of some updating. The Civil War and World War II ones I forgot I had done - I was having problems of re-doing the formatting back when. I was able to do that - I am going to take these databases back into the Cemetery data base and in the future re-do them - BUT it the mean time I can add names on to the site under each War and also I will put into the cemetery data base if sent to me.

Eulogy for a Veteran

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the Gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

-Author Unknown

Not in vain did they serve . . .. . . but for our freedom!

"Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours."
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I have compiled this from several sources that Ihave on hand of Greene county Indiana sources. that has been obtain till all possible data listed is obtained on a veteran. I have left the record number in the data base for now and the sort number for the cemetery so that we can eliminate any double enteries if they exist within each war.

Iknow this is probably an incomplete listing of the veterans and their data. But it is a start to this data base project.

Any military wars, conflicts etc. I am missing please let me know; also any veteran’s and their missing data.

If you wish and have bounty or pension files numbers for the Revolutionry, Civil War, Mexican and Spanish American veterans; I can also add a column and included that info into this data base so others can have access to it

Also there is a source that I have not looked into as to where you can find data on your Veteran especially if there is a military marker on the grave it is as follows: AMERICAN LEGION BURIAL REGISTRATIONS CARDS, it is housed in the Archives Division, Indiana Commission of Public Records at the Indiana State Library, 140 N. Senate Ave. Indianapolis, Indiana. An example of what can be found the lesser to the greast amount of information:
AARON, James Owen: Serial No. 302959: Next of Kin (W) Fern: Address Jasonville, Ind.; Born 7 Apr 1895 Franklin , Ky.: Death 26 Jan 1928: buried Lebanon Cem., Wright twp.: Grave No. 4 Lot 238E, Blk 2: Co. I 126 th Ind. Inf., Army, WWI, Pvt.: Enlisted 16 May 1918; Discharged 29 May 1919

ABBOTT, George: Buried Grandview Cem., Bloomfield Ind.: Grave No. 4, Lot 293 Sec. X (ar).
If lucky you will also have the place of death and date of burial and cause of death.

I am not sure but I think I have a list that contains all veterans from Aaron to Asdell that were buried in Greene county and that data has been abstracted into the data bases here in.

There are some that are listed in peacetime that may belong to one of the other wars but no war has been listed for these men, only branch, or company etc. of service and I have not taken it upon my self to guess which one. When known they will be added to that war or conflict. And if served in more than one they will be listed under each war that they served in.
