Greene-Sullivan State Forest

    In the mid-1930s several coal companies donated 4,139 acres of strip-mined land to the Indiana Department of Conservation, which was later expanded into the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Now it totals 7,900 -7,964 acres are divided into two main areas. The forest, which covers 6,700 acres and straddles the Greene-Sullivan County line, there are about 100 -122 lakes here that are reclaimed strip pits In addition, another 1,200 acres, known as the Dugger Unit, was acquired by the Indiana Division of Forestry from Peabody Coal Company in 1995 and is now a part of the Greene-Sullivan State Forest.

    Location: South of Terre Haute. From US 41, east on SR 54, then south on SR 159 at the town of Dugger. Forest office is on the east side of 159. or South of Dugger on SR 159 to CR 500S, turn east on CR 500S to 1st road, turn north approximatelly .25 mile to range, Dugger
