Introduction

This site is NOT AFFILIATED with anyone or any society - and NO one is over me or under me - It is MY site - of MY records I have collected on Greene County through the years - This is a means to share and preserve all I have collected over the years with others - for FREE! It will NEVER be connected with anyone or site unless their acccess is FREE - till I decide that I want to give it up. I already have in mind who that will be and what site! -

I have moved everything that I have done for this site for now to Greene county Indiana INGenWeb. It was originally started also as a means of helping the County Cordinator before me - a means of putting up my Greene county records.

Alvin H. Inman was County Clerk for Greene County Indiana when I purchased the microfiche of records from the Clerks office in 1988. His staff was very helpful to me when I was at the courthouse and during the process of purchasing the microfiche sets. That was the year I had lost my whole Mc Kee manuscript and had to start over from scratch - calling in all that I had shared

I owed a great a debt of thanks to Mary Lou (Neill) Combs Wiles Brewer ; and several ladies who help me get started on my Greene County Indiana ancestry all who are deceased now - Faye L. Flynn (she was a hired researcher for a very very short time could not afford her!); Minnie (Merritt) White and her daughter Wilma (White) Rollins.

I dedicate these pages to all who have Greene county Indiana ancestors.

And of course Happy Ancestor hunting to one and all! Still working on this site slowly! I takes time to database, scan etc. all I have on hand from over the years. Please be patient.

As I live OUTSIDE of Greene county I have based this site design by questions that I have had over the years. Also I have Greene county Indiana material that I have collected during those years; since 1976. I will be going through it slowly and including it on the site to share with all; as it is only sitting on my self gathering dust. This will take time since it is many years collection and a lot of it was shared with me over the years.

If you have any suggestions as to what more to included on site - - e-mail me; please! Anyone who finds a link that connects to Greene county or that can be used for Greene county Research feel free to send it to me and I will gladly include it.

Criteria is that it must be a free access link, where no charges are assessed for accessing it. I will try not list any site that charges a fee to access their online records at this point in time. I feel that it is unfair to you the researcher. At a later date if you wish there may be a page designed for these and but will be kept separate from the free pages.

I started clipping and collecting out the Bloomfield News back in the mid 1970's and until about 1988/89 I abstracted the data from them. About that time I started saving the pages the obits were on and then annotated them with date published and "Blfd News", clipped them every 3-4 months or longer and then filed them alphabetically and about 2002 I stopped clipping them till more time came available to sit down and annotate and clip which has never came about. From about 2000 (not sure in drawer) I saved the whole page the obit and court redords were on - now a mouse hase decided it likes my papers and obits for nesting material so I am in the process of getting them into here the faster way possible and throwing the papers away.

The ones clipped are all dumped into two boxes and I will type them into the files as they come out and I will start with those first since they are in loose form and some are getting a little rugged around the edges. I will do them by alphabetical order and not date. Date published and the paper they came out of will be noted. All obituaries in the Bloomfield News first appeared in the Evening World during the week. Rust commiunications purchased the Evening World and who was owner of the Linton Daily Citizen the same obituary ran in both papers; as well as the Worthington Times.

Original copies possibly can be obtained from: The Greene County Daily World - The Evening World has ceased to exist; the Evening World was combined along with the Linton Daily Citizen into one paper as of 2006 and became the Greene County Daily World. The Worthington Tines exists as an online version toweards the end of 2006 the exact date it ceased printed publication is unknown. The Bloomfield News (was published weekly continuously from 1874) has ceased to exist as of 16 Oct 2003 it and the Evening World were formerly owned by Miles Publishing Company Inc. of Bloomfield, In.

Permission was asked for use of through the then Linton Daily Citizen who is also subsidiary of Rust Communications, Inc. 301 Broadway Street P.O. Box 699 Cape Girardeau, MO 63702 Phone: (573) 335-6611 Fax: (573) 334-8882. Contact for this was Christy Lehman
