Henry and Mary Jane Shoptaw to Washington Edington

Filed Decmeber 30th 1847 12 O'clock M.

This indenture made this fifteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred forty seven between Henry Shoptaw and Mary Jane Shoptaw his wife of the County of Greene and State of Indiana of the first part, and Washington Edington of the County of Greene and State of Indiana of the second part Witnesseth, That the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum one hundred and twenty five dollars to the said party of the first part by the party of the second part in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowl edged, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain alien sell convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever all the following described piece or parcel of land vitz: The southwest quarter of the northwest quarter & the northwest quarter of Southwest quarter of section No. eighteen in township No. six north of range No. three west containing eight acres and fifty hundreths, together wilh all the rights privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging. To have and to Hold the above described premises with all the improvements and appurtenances, the to same belonging to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever and the said party of the first part for themselves and their heirs do hereby covenant with the said party of the second part and his heirs that they are lawfully seized in fee of the premises aforesaid and have good right full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same in maner aforesaid; that the premises are free and clear from all incumberances whatsoever, and that they will forever Warrant and Defend the same and the wuiet and peaceable possession, therof together with his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim of all persons whomsoever. In witness Whereof the said Henry Shoptaw and Mary Jane Shoptaw his wife who hereby relinqisher her right of dower to the above described premises have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. Henry Shoptaw Mary Jane (Her mark) Shoptaw State of Indiana Greene County SS: I James Records one of the Justices of the peace of said County do hereby certify that the above named Hnery Shoptaw Mary Jane Shoptaw his wife came personally before me and acknowledged the foregoing instrument of writing to be their voluntary act and deed, for the purposes therein mentioned, also Mary Jane Shoptaw above named the wife of the said Henry Shoptaw who being by me examined privately seperate and apart from and without hearing of her said husband; and the full contents and purport of the said deed being by me made known to her she she acknowledged that she exectued the same of her own free will and accord and without any coercion or compulsion from her said husband.
