You can contact me at: if you have suggestions, questions or comments and any information, pictures etc. to share about Greene County Indiana genealogy.

As I live OUTSIDE of Greene county I have based this site design by questions that I have had over the years. Also I have Greene county Indiana material that I have collected during those years; since 1976. I will be going through it slowly and including it on the site to share with all; as it is only sitting on my self gathering dust. This will take time since it is many years collection and a lot of it was shared with me over the years.

As I live OUTSIDE of Greene county I have based this site design by questions that I have had over the years. Also I have Greene county Indiana material that I have collected during those years; since 1976. To avoid high researching fees of hiring ohters to do my Greene county Indiana Research. I will be going through it slowly and including it on the site to share with all; as it is only sitting on my self gathering dust. This will take time since it is many years collection and a lot of it was shared with me over the years.

If you have any suggestions as to what more to included on site - - e-mail me; please! Anyone who finds a link that connects to Greene county or that can be used for Greene county Research feel free to send it to me and I will gladly include it.

Criteria is that it must be a free access link, where no charges are assessed for accessing it. I will try not list any site that charges a fee to access their online records at this point in time. I feel that it is unfair to you the researcher. At a later date if you wish there may be a page designed for these and but will be kept separate from the free pages.

Your Comments

Hi, I really enjoy your website and was wondering if you could tell me who you are and do you live in Greene county? Many people could probably help with your website but I would like to know your name, too. Thank you. Linda Sharp e-mail to sharp@airnwire.com - 31 Oct 2005

Dear Website Coordinator, I have been observing your website for some time and now is the time to correct problems for you .I am Linda Sharp, President and Coordinator for most all of Greene County’s information.
Please correct the following: Diane Drogich’s website has been removed. Please take her name off.

Marsha Cline is NOT a contact person for our historical society. Please Take her e-mail address off.

Aaron Hamm’s website has been defunct for years. Please take him off.

Chuck Long’s website is not very useful but it’s o.k. to leave it for now. He Does not add pertinent information, nor attend any of our functions.
Please add that the physical address for the Greene County Historical Society is 27 South Washington Street (East side of courthouse) Bloomfield, IN 47424. The treasurer Charlis Crays does take book orders and we are open Tues-Thurs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Six newsletters are published per year and five Guest speakers from all over the county give lectures on the 3rd Sunday of February April, June, August, and October with an informal Christmas party in December. Membership fees are $10.00 per year with lifetime membership at $100.00. The Geene County Historical Society has been in business since 1973. We prefer To deal in person with people searching for family history records. Most of our Records are on paper and require a researcher for guidance. We accept yearbook Pictures and family pictures if they have names on them. Thank you. Linda Sharp - June 23, 2006

My reply was:
Well - Linda - I am sorry but you or someone - has lead to the miss information or some of it! I have found these links via several resources on the internet!

The historical Society webstie [website] - as no physical address - nor no current contact info http://www.greenecountyin.org/gchs.htm [Note they do have a new website - with current info listed elsewhere on this site - 3-3-2008]

You should start there! - As I reference the listing back to that page - The listings of Hostorical Sites on the State level etc.! If the correct informtion is not out there - at other places it is as much your fault -

Diana's site I am sure I found on the internet - and untill I hear from her I will not delte it - From: http://www.indianahistory.org/LHS/societylist.html
I find:
GREENE GREENE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
P.O. Box 301
Bloomfield, IN 47424-0301
Contact: Marsha Cline
Phone: 812-659-2315
E-mail: macline@airnwire.com
President: Linda Edward Sharp [NOTE: I re-checked this today 3-3-2008 and it is still listed as such as it was back on the date this e-mail was written]

Then is the historian even correct as listed on the Indiana Historical Society pages???

GO LOOK FOR YOUR SELF! YOU ARE THE PERSON NOT peeing [keeping] iformation [information] up to date on other site then too!

Then thorugh Greene COunty Resurces [Resources] at: http://www.gcindiana.info/index.html Greene County History - I find GREENE COUNTY HISTORICAL COALITION http://www.bsu.edu/web/dabenefiel/WEBPAGE/final%20web2/Greene%20County%20Historical%20Coalition.html With the various Links I have on my site !

I find this: Greene County Genealogical SOciety http://www.greenecountyin.org/gcgs.htm under it: Back to Roots of Greene http://www.greenecountyin.org/greene.htm and this: For Arron - i find this and until I hear from him personally I will not take his off - Greene County History - Aaron Hamm - and a valid address of http://home.insightbb.com/~aronham1/

Dear Person, As I told you I am the President of the Greene County Historical Society. I want to know your name. In the letter below you sent me links that don't exist and you can't spell or read and write! Take a lesson from the FCC! What is your name??? You are disrespectful and belligerent! Who are you and what is your title to tell me that I don't know about our own historical society?

Our physical address, as you asked for, is 27 South Washington Street and all e-mail other than book orders should be addressed to me Linda Sharp, President. You can't even spell delete (delte)!

Clicking on the Hamm and Drogich websites brings up nothing. I demand to know your name and who is in authority over you. I don't like hostile letters from unknown persons. Reveal yourself! Linda Sharp - 28 Jun 2006

Thank you for your web pages. I really appreciate them! Rose Baker lalrb@yahoo.com 3 Feb 2006

I like your website, I'm a Greene County,Indiana genealogy nut also! - Pam Jones 3 Feb 2008

Hello Greene county Nut: My name is Mike Sponsler. I too met Mary Lou Wiles once when my brothers and I visited Greene County from our homes in Illinois (I live in Ohio now) to do genealogy research in the mid 80's. We visited Mary Lou and Roy in their home and we talked genealogy and had lots of laughs. She did a little research for me thereafter and commented how much fun she had when we visited....Anyhow that is my Greene county story. My wife and I have been doing research of our families for about 20 years. If you see any Sponsler info, please drop us a line. If there is anything we can do for you let us know. Mike and Doris Sponsler - 8 Sep 2007 [NOTE - the SPonsler data he shared is elsewhere on site]

I noticed the info on the town of Sponsler is blank on your Greene county places. I received this information yesterday In a book entitled Indiana Place Names: "Founded in 1889 and named for William Sponsler who owned land here when a railroad stop was established." Mike Sponsler- 9 Sep 2007

I bid you greetings from Anderson , Indiana ....After your review of the document, I would appreciate if you have any information that would help or even a website to go to. [NOTE the Carpenter infomation he sent is elsewhere on site]. Samuel Tincher was one of the founding fathers of Linton. That is a direct relative of mine. Thank you very much. Blessings to you, Michael E. Tincher PS- If you require further information that might aide you please feel free to ask. - 11 Oct 2007

Thanks for all the work you put into this web site. Last week I used the cemetery listing which saved me lots of time, but this week I am not able to get to that site. It just takes me to an ancestry.com page that says the page isn’t available. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but thought I would ask just in case there is a problem. Again thanks, the pictures of the head stones were really helpful. - Reba Butler - February 19, 2008

Thanks the cemetery list is working. At one time did I actually get a list of names of those buried at each cemetery and even pictures of some of the stones or was that another site? I thought it was this site but am starting to worry about myself. Sorry to bother you again. This is a great website. Thanks again for your help. Reba Butler - 21 Feb 2008
